Bernard “Bernie” F. Thostenson, 79, of Brodhead, WI, died Tuesday, March 5, 2013, at Mercy Hospital, Janesville, WI. He was born Dec. 17, 1933, in Spring Valley Township, Rock County WI, the son of Melvin and Margaret (Wecker) Thostenson. Bernie was a veteran of the U.S. Navy. He married Viola Doud on Nov. 9, 1957, in Luther Valley Church. Bernie was formerly employed by the Beloit Foundry and McCleary’s in South Beloit, IL, retiring in 1995. During that time he also farmed in Spring Valley Township, Brodhead, WI. He enjoyed playing euchre with his friends in Brodhead, and Footville, and loved playing poker with his family. Bernie was a member of Faith Lutheran Church, South Beloit, IL.
Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Viola Thostenson of Brodhead, WI; four children: Deborah (Fred) Luethy of Middleburg, FL, Dennis (Judy) Thostenson of Beloit, WI, Tom (Sherry) Thostenson of Footville, WI, and Shirley (Rusty) Erickson of Beloit, WI; grandchildren: Daniel, Brenda and Rebecca Luethy of Middleburg, FL, Michael Leuck of Beloit, WI, Lee Thostenson of Minnesota, Andy Thostenson of Beloit, WI, Thomas Thostenson of Watertown, WI, Sarah Thostenson of TX, and Rachael Thostenson of Footville, WI; brothers and sisters: Irene Piper, George (Mary) Thostenson, Marie (Ken) Edmonds, Ronnie (Bev) Thostenson, Susie Schwartzlow, Bonnie (Larry) Spurgin and Roy (Rhonda) Thostenson; brother-in-law, Clarence (Betty) Schnurr; sisters-in-law, Violet Atkinson and Bonnie Thostenson.
He was predeceased by his parents; son, Joey Thostenson; infant sister, Shirley Thostenson; brothers, Donnie and Milton Thostenson; and several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 13, 2013, at FAITH LUTHERAN CHURCH, 1305 Blackhawk Blvd. South Beloit, IL, with Pastor Lu Bettisch officiating. Burial will be in Floral Lawns Memorial Gardens, South Beloit, IL. Visitation will be from 5 until 7 p.m. Tuesday at the DALEY MURPHY WISCH & ASSOCIATES FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATORIUM, 2355 Cranston Road, Beloit, WI. Visitation will also be from 10 a.m. until the time of service Wednesday at the CHURCH.
