Richard "Rick" E. Welch, 61, of Lawson School Road, Delavan, died unexpectedly on Sunday, March 3, 2013, at St. Mary's Hospital, Janesville. Rick was born Feb. 1, 1952, in Elkhorn, WI, the son of Toni and Joyce (Wolf) Welch. Rick was a 1970 graduate of DDHS and then received an associate degree. He worked the family farm for over 40 years. He was active in 4-H and Future Farmers of America. He was active in the Walworth County Fair for most of his life, serving as Superintendent of the Saddle Horse Dept. He began as a youth exhibitor at the fair. He was a member of the Wisconsin High School Rodeo Association since 1985, and was on its board of directors. He was a member of St. Andrews Catholic Church.
Rick is survived by his mother, Joyce Welch of Darien; two brothers, Michael L. (Laura) Welch of Darien, and Dennis Welch of Haslett, MI; four nieces; one nephew; and one grand-nephew. He was predeceased by his father, Toni Welch.
Funeral services are at 11 a.m. Friday, March 8, 2013, at ST. ANDREWS CATHOLIC CHURCH with the Rev. James Scheurman officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Friends may call from 4 until 8 p.m. Thursday, March 7th, at the BETZER FUNERAL HOME in Delavan. The Welch Family suggests memorials to Wis. High School Rodeo Assoc. for the Rick Welch Memorial.
