Benjamin A. DeLeon, Sr., 60, of Elkhorn, WI, died Friday, March 1, 2013, at his residence. He was born May 1, 1952, in Minneapolis, MN, the son of Mary R. (Moreno) and the late Henry DeLeon. Ben was united in marriage to the former Kathleen B. Bethke on March 6, 2000, in Elkhorn, WI. Ben was a private investigator who owned and operated Bushido Security of Milwaukee, WI, from 1970 until 1992. In 1996, he started DeLeon Martial Arts Academy in Walworth, WI. He was very accomplished in martial arts as an instructor and coach in Judo, Ju-Jitsu (USA National Team Coach), Karate and Tae Kwon Do. Ben was a 9th Dan Shiham. He also was a professional kick boxer and wrestler. He belonged to several associations associated with the martial arts. Ben was inducted into the Martial Arts Hall of Fame.
Ben is survived by his wife, Kathleen; his mother, Mary Luis of Milwaukee, WI; five children: Lisa, Benjamin, Ariana, Tom, Sara; 10 grandchildren; and 10 siblings. He was preceded in death by his father, one brother and one sister.
A Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, March 6, 2013, at ST. PATRICK’S CATHOLIC CHURCH, 107 W. Walworth Street, Elkhorn, WI, with Father Oriol Regales officiating. Visitation will be Tuesday from 4 until 8 p.m. with Rosary at 7:45 p.m. at the HAASE-LOCKWOOD & ASSOCIATES FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATORY, 730 N. Wisconsin St., Elkhorn.
