Gladys E. Maly, Deerfield, WI  (1921 - 2013)

Gladys E. Maly, age 91, passed away on Wednesday, Feb. 27, 2013. She was born on the family farm in Deerfield, on Oct. 6, 1921, the daughter of Carl and Helga (Engelstad) Mikkleson. Gladys graduated from Deerfield High School and from Madison Business College. On May 4, 1946, she married Leonard Maly. Together, they farmed in the Deerfield area for many years. Gladys worked as an accountant for the American Red Cross until her retirement in 1984. She was a devoted lifetime member of St. Paul’s Liberty Lutheran Church. Gladys enjoyed bowling, playing cards, traveling and spending time with her family.
Gladys is survived by her children, Kay (Harlan) Erdahl and Kurt (Debbie) Maly; five grandchildren: Brenda (Steve) Collins, Wendy (Pat) Hansen-Haines, Cortney (Dan) Hellmich, Kyle (Kimberly) Maly and Katy (Dan) Irmen; 15 great-grandchildren; and sister-in-law, Hazel Mikkelson.
Gladys was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Leonard; granddaughter, Marsha Erdahl; two brothers, Morris and Gehard Mikkelson; and three sisters: Ruth Hoiby, Mildred Buege and Hazel Simonson.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, March 4, 2013, at ST. PAUL’S LIBERTY LUTHERAN CHURCH, 3494 Oak Park Road, Deerfield, with Rev. Dick Blomker officiating. Burial will follow in the St. Paul’s Liberty Lutheran Cemetery. Friends and relatives are invited to a luncheon following the burial in the church education center. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until the time of services, Monday at the CHURCH. A special thank you to the staff at Skaalen Home, especially Heritage Center.
