Alvah "Cliff" Clifford, Rice Lake, WI (1922 - 2013)

Alvah “Cliff” Clifford, age 90, of Rice Lake, WI, died Saturday, Jan. 26, 2013, at the Rice Lake Convalescent Center. Cliff was born July 19, 1922, in Pleasantville, NJ, to Roland and Josephine (Burroughs) Clifford. He was married to Dorothy Finger in Beloit, WI, on March 23, 1946. Cliff was a United States Army veteran of World War II. Following the service, Cliff and Dorothy moved to New Jersey for four years and operated a Turkey Ranch. They, then, moved to Beloit, where he became a machinist for Fairbanks Morse Colt Industries for 34 years. He also was a butcher all of his life and had a special sausage recipe. Cliff and Dorothy moved to Rice Lake from Janesville in 2009. Cliff enjoyed woodworking and volunteering as a driver for Social Services.
Alvah Clifford is survived by his wife, Dorothy Clifford of Rice Lake; a son and daughter-in-law, Fred and Mary Clifford of Denver, CO; two daughters and sons-in-law: Jean and Marvin Pupeter of Henderson, NV; and Jacque and John Schaffer of Rice Lake; six grandchildren: Tom (Amanda) Schaffer, Molly Schaffer, Johnny (Megan) Schaffer, Kelly (Todd Fiebelkorn) Pupeter, Florence Clifford and Jay Clifford; and many nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by a son, Roland Jay; a granddaughter, Catherine; parents, Roland and Josephine Clifford; and two sisters, Ruth Humphries and Carol Staut.
Funeral Services will be held 6 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 30, 2013, at APPLEYARD'S HOME FOR FUNERALS in Rice Lake, WI, Rev. Janelle Harrison officiating. Interment will be Thursday, Jan. 31, 2013, in the Northern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery at Spooner, WI, where Military Rites will be accorded by the Rice Lake Veterans Center Honor Guard. Visitation will be held from 4 until 6 p.m. Wednesday at APPLEYARD'S HOME FOR FUNERALS. Memorials may be given to the United Presbyterian Church.
