Stephena N. Frederick, Janesville  (1916 - 2013)

Stephena N. Frederick, age 96, of Janesville, died on Friday, Jan. 25, 2013, at Cedar Crest. She was born on Aug. 23, 1916, in Madison, WI, the daughter of Joseph and Gaetana (Randazzo) Nania. Steph graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, with a degree in Sociology in 1938. She started her career as a social worker for the Rock County Welfare Department, where she met Edward C. Frederick. They were married Nov. 6, 1943, in Madison, WI. After WWII, Steph worked at the Rock County Guidance Clinic as a psychiatric social worker until her retirement in 1982. Steph was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Janesville, for over 60 years. Along with attending mass everyday, Steph was involved in Janesville Art League, the Janesville Woman’s Club, Altrusa, and the Bower City Garden Club. She and her husband, Ed, traveled extensively throughout the world. Her family was most important to her. She was always available to help her family whether she was wielding a hammer or preparing meals. A self-proclaimed struggling golfer and mediocre bridge player, nevertheless she made one mean apple pie. Steph was a great listener and a loyal mother and friend who had a shrewd sense of humor. Her smile made her friends everywhere.
Steph is survived by her two children, Arra (Thomas) Lasse of Milton, and George (Melanie) Frederick of Illinois; three grandchildren: Cpt. Joseph Frederick of Texas, Allisen (Juan) Cullum of Janesville, and Amanda Frederick of Michigan; a sister, Ann Nania of Illinois. She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, and a sister.
A Celebration of Steph’s Life will take place at CEDAR CREST on March 24, 2013, further details will follow. Memorials may be made to the Foundation for Preservation of 108 S. Jackson St. (Woman’s Club Building) and Janesville Art League.
