Kathleen Marie (Lange) Orchard, age 70, of Janesville, WI, passed away on Sunday, Jan. 6, 2013. She was born the daughter of Milton A. and Elvira A. Lange on Nov. 3, 1942, in Oak Creek, WI. She was baptized, confirmed, and married at the Oak Creek United Methodist Church, and graduated from Oak Creek High School. She was employed by Oak Creek High School administration office. She married William R. Orchard on Nov. 30, 1968, and they began their lifelong journey of dairy farming together in Eagle, WI, at Gurn-Z Meadow Farm.
Kathi’s loving nature forever touched the lives of family, friends and strangers. Her laughter and sense of humor would light up a room and her spirited outlook on life found its way into the hearts of many. She was a Sunday School teacher, 4-H leader, and community leader. Kathi had a passion for baking, cooking, gardening, canning, crafting, sewing, and home decorating. She cherished the time spent at her family’s cottage in Tomahawk, WI. She helped lead her family in showing and developing their herd of Guernsey dairy cattle locally and nationally. She was an active member of Little Prairie United Methodist Church and the Wisconsin and American Guernsey Breeder’s Association. Her greatest joy was being a wife, mother, grandmother and friend.
Kathi is survived by her husband, William of Janesville; three daughters: Julie (Edmund) Bacon of Columbus, WI, Kristi (Brian Laufenberg) Orchard of Columbus, and Jennifer Orchard of Madison, WI; and one grandson, Dane Laufenberg; and other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents.
Memorial services will be at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2013, with Pastor Lucinda Alwa officiating at HAASE LOCKWOOD FUNERAL HOME, 320 W. Main St., Palmyra, WI. The family will receive friends during visitation from 3:30 until 7:30 p.m. prior to the service. A private burial will follow at Oak Ridge Cemetery in Eagle, WI.
