Marian Eileen McCarten, Janesville  (1926 - 2013)

Marian Eileen McCarten, 86, of Janesville, died on Friday, Jan. 4, 2013, surrounded by her family. Marian was born in Janesville, on June 20, 1926. She married Hugh Vincent McCarten in June 1949, and moved to Beloit, WI, where she became the center of a large family. Marian loved picking strawberries, making jam, canning tomatoes, her dog of 16 years, Abby, and cheering on her beloved Green Bay Packers and Badger hockey. In addition to raising nine children, Marian worked at Kohl's grocery in Beloit, and Shopko in Janesville. Marian valued acceptance and forgiveness, and created a welcoming home. She is remembered for her gravy, goulash, chocolate chip cookies, potato salad and enduring spirit. She was well-loved and will be deeply missed.
Marian is survived by nine children: Eileen Rambicure and Kevin McCarten, both of Janesville, James (Carol) McCarten of Milton, WI, Keith McCarten of Menomonie, WI, Daniel McCarten of Clinton, WI, Donald (Mary) McCarten and John (Threse) McCarten, all of Minneapolis, MN, Norine (Paul Bolton) McCarten of Chicago, IL, and Laura McCarten of St. Paul, MN. She is also survived by five grandchildren; one great-grandchild; one sister, Donna Ward of Laurenburg, NC; one brother, Daniel (Kay) Mullen of Beloit, WI, and a brother-in-law, Neil Bolton of Janesville. Marian was preceded in death by her husband and sisters, Lillian, Darlene, and Betts.
At her request, private services will be held.
