William "Bill" J. Hartz, Elkhorn, WI (1934 - 2013)

William “Bill” J. Hartz, 78, of Cobb Road, Elkhorn, died Friday, Feb. 22, 2013, at Aurora St. Luke’s Medical Center. Bill was born Aug. 29, 1934, in Elgin, IL, the son of the late Louis and Edna (Horn) Hartz. On June 12, 1954, he was united in marriage to Shirley Greene in Elkhorn, WI. Bill has farmed over 50 years in the Town of LaFayette. He attended the University Wisconsin-Madison Agriculture Short Course. He was the former chairman of the Town of LaFayette, currently serving on the planning commission, Walworth County ASCS Committee, he was a charter member of the Elkhorn FFA Alumni.
Bill is survived by his wife of 58 years, Shirley; five children: Nancy (Rodney) Lee of Darien, WI, Richard (Joyce) Hartz of Chippewa Falls, WI, Barbara “Bobbie” (Conrad “Sonny”) York of Elkhorn, Mary (Jim) Vorpagel of Delavan, WI, and Donna (David) Bjorge of Elkhorn, WI; 26 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; one brother, Howard (Ruth) Hartz of Janesville, WI; and one sister, Linda (Wayne) Muchow of DePere, WI. He is further survived by several nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends. Bill was preceded in death by his daughter, Diane Hartz; granddaughter, Stephanie Hartz; and great-grandson, Rowan Lee.
Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 27, 2013, at HAASE-LOCKWOOD & ASSOCIATES FUNERAL HOME 730 N. Wisconsin Street, Elkhorn, with Rev. Jim Meltrotter officiating. Burial will be at Hazel Ridge Cemetery, Elkhorn. Visitation will be Tuesday from 4 until 8 p.m. at the FUNERAL HOME.
