Duane Merle Knickerbocker, Jensen Beach, FL/Formerly of Janesville  (1931 - 2012)

Duane “Nick” M. Knickerbocker, age 81, of Jensen Beach, FL, and formerly of Janesville, died unexpectedly on Saturday, Nov. 17, 2012, at Martin Memorial Hospital in Stuart, FL. Duane was born in Janesville, WI, on Feb. 22, 1931, the son of Helen “Irene” (Hawthorne) Knickerbocker and Merle Knickerbocker. He served in the U.S. Marine Corp for three years from 1949 to 1951, and fought in the Korean War. Duane married Constance L. Busch on July 23, 1955, at then Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Stoughton, WI, (now Covenant Lutheran Church). He was employed by General Motors for 41 years, retiring in 1992. He retired part-time to Jensen Beach in 1993 and full-time by 2005. Duane was an active member of the community, devoted husband and loving father. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, bowling, golfing and wood working. He volunteered many years as a bowling coach and Scout leader. He had a kind, caring and gentle personality and quickly became someone’s “favorite” wherever he went.
Duane is survived by his wife, Connie; their two children, Randal S. Knickerbocker of Charlotte, MI, and Wendy L. Moore of Alpharetta, GA; eight grandchildren: Bryan Knickerbocker, Kayla Knickerbocker, Jeremiah Hulburt, Mathew Arthur, Cody Moore, Callie Ann Moore, Caitlyn Moore and Chloe Moore; and four great-grandchildren: Jacob Hulburt, Ashyln Hulburt, Cain Hulburt and Loki Hulburt. He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Kenneth and Ted Knickerbocker.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 9, 2013, at COVENANT LUTHERAN CHURCH in Stoughton, WI, officiated by Pastor Mark Petersen. Family will receive friends from 10 until 11 a.m. at the CHURCH prior to the service. The memorial will be followed by a luncheon at 12:30 at the VFW in Stoughton.
