Kristine (Kris) Mae Leix, Roscoe, IL  (1949 - 2013)

Kristine (Kris) Mae Leix, 64, passed away Tuesday evening, Feb. 19, 2013, at Rockford Memorial Hospital with her family by her side after a 2½ year battle with cancer. Kris was born Jan. 2, 1949, in Beloit, WI, the daughter of loving predeceased parents, Harland and Hulda (Bakka) Bjerva. She married James (Jim) Leix of Montfort, WI, on June 10, 1972, in Janesville, WI. Kris graduated from Janesville Senior High School in 1967; Luther College, Decorah, IA, in 1971, with a B.A. in English; and received her Masters from National Louis in English. She taught English and Art for 36 years at Mabel, MN; Plainfield and Butler, IN; Luther College, Davenport, IA, and Harlem High School, where she taught for the last 20 years until her retirement in 2011. Kris put everyone first before herself. She was the original soccer mom before the concept became mainstream. She coached volleyball, track and youth baseball. She was a teacher, a tutor, a great cook. She loved boating, painting, reading, playing games with family and spending time with her grandchildren. She was a Chicago Cubs fan and a Green Bay Packers fan. She was a caregiver to all and loved a good laugh.
Kris is survived by her husband, Jim; son, Jason (Nirvana) with grandchildren: Andrew, 6, Alex, 3 and Isabella, 1; son, Aaron (Brianne) with grandchildren, Colton, 4 and Hayden, 1; siblings, Charta Lockwood, Dan (Rose) Lockwood, Kim (Dorothy) Lockwood, Mark Lockwood, Randi Fleck, Alan (Patricia) Lockwood, Mary (Doug) Insko, and John Lockwood. She was predeceased by her beloved dalmation, Jerry. Kris was a soulmate, friend, sister, aunt, wife, mother and grandmother.
Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 23, 2013, in ROSCOE UNITED METHODIST CHURCH, 10816 Main Street, Roscoe, with a visitation one hour preceding. There will also be a visitation on Friday night at the church from 5 until 8 p.m. In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, memorials may be made to the family for a fund to be established.
