Ruth H. Scharine, Delavan, WI  (1914 - 2013)

Ruth H. Scharine, age 98, of Delavan, WI, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 12, 2013, at Linden Grove Nursing Home in Waukesha, WI. She was born in Lake Geneva, WI, on Dec. 20, 1914, the daughter of Albert and Anna (Johnson) Peterson. Ruth was united in marriage to Melvin Scharine on June 5, 1937, at her home in Hebron IL. He preceded her in death on June 8, 2005. Along with her husband, they owned and operated the Richmond General Store and the Richmond Telephone Co. until 1951. Ruth then began working as a teacher in the local school systems and finally working in the school offices before retiring. She was a member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Delavan, a member of the Delavan Lioness and a volunteer with the Meals on Wheels Program.
Ruth is survived by her daughter, Judy Cefalu of Sussex, WI; two sons, Dale (Maureen) Scharine of Appleton, WI, and Denis (Bonny) Scharine of Fremont, WI; seven grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren; one sister, Ethel Popenhagen of Hebron, IL; and one brother, Eric Peterson of Genoa City, WI. Also surviving are nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Melvin; one sister, Signe; four brothers: Hank, Carl, Ernie and Bud; one daughter-in-law, Beverly; and one son-in-law, Dennis Cefalu.
Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 15, 2013, at OUR REDEEMER LUTHERAN CHURCH in Delavan, WI, with Rev Robert P. Rickman officiating. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until service time at 11 a.m. at the CHURCH on Friday. Burial will follow at Richmond Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Our Redeemer Lutheran Church.
