June (Bessel) Reilly, 89, of Janesville/Milton, passed away on Monday, Feb. 4, 2013, at Our House Senior Living, Janesville. She was born on June 27, 1923, in the Township of LaPrairie, Janesville, daughter of the late Paul and Ione (Powell) Bessel. She was united in marriage to Philip Reilly in 1951. June grew up on a farm and was never far from her roots. She had a small farm between Milton and Janesville, where she grew tobacco, raised chickens, heifers and a large garden. June was a hard worker all of her life. She had many jobs, including skinning mink, but for most of her working life she worked at Parker Pen. She worked there during World War II, quit to have a son, returned in 1956, and worked until her retirement in 1980. June was always fond of children and strays. She had several dogs during her life. Her latest pet was a stray cat the she took in. The cat never did have a name and was known simple as "the cat".
June is survived by one daughter, Marie Kraus of Janesville; one son, Emmett (Cindy) Reilly; one sister, Dorothy Heider; one brother, Harold (Carol) Bessel, all of Milton; two grandsons, Philip of Eau Claire and Alex of Eau Claire/Milton; along with many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Ralph, William, and Fred; sisters, Evaline and Florence.
Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 9, 2013, at the EHLERT FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATION SERVICES, with the Rev. David Brynelson officiating. Burial will be in the Milton Lawns Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call on Saturday, Feb. 9, 2013, at the FUNERAL HOME from 10 a.m. until the time of the service.
