Barbara Asplund (Lythell), Walworth, WI (2013)

Barbara Lythell Asplund, age 81, of Walworth, WI, passed away Saturday, Feb. 2, 2013, at Golden Years Health Care Center in Walworth. Barbara was the daughter of Harriet Finch Lythell and Richard William Lythell, both deceased. Barbara leaves behind her husband of 60 years, Lauren Asplund and three children: Richard (Deanna) of Glencoe, IL, David (Julie) of Chicago, and Laurie (Danny VanHouten) of Monroe, WI; and five grandchildren: Kayln, Melissa, Robert, Alec and Teddy.
Barbara had a lifelong love of teaching and working with children. Upon graduation from Northwestern University in 1953, with a BA degree in Education, she began her teaching career in Wilmette, IL, and then River Forest, IL. After marriage, she followed her husband to various army posts and taught school in Rolla, MO. She then left teaching for a number of years to raise her family. In 1976, she moved with her husband to Iran, for three years where she taught at the American School in Tehran, Iran. During those same years, she traveled extensively with her family, visiting over 35 countries in Europe, the Middle East and Asia. After her return from Iran, Barbara taught at Jefferson School in Harvard, IL, until her retirement in 1986.
Services for Barbara will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 5, 2013, at TOYNTON'S WALWORTH FUNERAL HOME. Burial will be in at Oakhill Cemetery in Lake Geneva, WI. Friends may visit with the family from 10 a.m. until time of service on Tuesday.
