Robert Ray McCartney, Orfordville, WI  (1927 - 2012)

Robert Ray McCartney, age 85, passed away on Wednesday, Sept. 26, 2012, at Rock Haven in Janesville. He was born Sept. 18, 1927, in Oconto, WI, the son of George and Sarah Emma (Spice) McCartney. He married Marjorie Zahn on June 27, 1953, in Sturgeon Bay, WI. She passed away on Nov. 29, 1972. He was then married to Virginia Marie Pinnow in 1984. She passed away on April 19, 2010. He was a Veteran of the US Army in 1946 and 1947, and a member of Kenneth S. Wells American Legion Post 209, Orfordville, past adjutant and past local commander of Footville and Orfordville American Legion Posts.
Robert taught in rural schools 1949 through 1958, in Door, Columbia, and Rock Counties, and nineteen years as elementary principal at Parkview School District in Orfordville, from 1958-1977, and then for two years as Coordinator of Special Services dealing with aspects of special education in Parkview School District from 1977-1979.
Bob was a member of Orfordville Lutheran Church, was superintendent and Sunday School teacher, and a member of the Senior Choir. He was also active in community club activities, past leader of Boy Scouts and scout committees. He volunteered 3,683 hours for the Department of Veterans Affairs Voluntary Service Program over 14 years.
Bob is survived by his children: daughter, Debbie (Terry) Schaeuble of Wrightstown, and their children, Sara (Kevin) Verheyen, Matthew, and Mitch; sons: Kerry (Chris) of Columbia, MO, and their sons, Jeremy (Lorna) and Jason (Shae); Paul (Tammy) of East Troy, and their children Telsea and Rebecca (Shawn) Dougherty; grandchildren: Lauren, Collin, and Brooklyn Verheyen, Kaeli McCartney, Reece McCartney and Adrian Dougherty.
Funeral services will be held at ORFORDVILLE LUTHERAN CHURCH at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 29, 2012, with Pastor Eric Jones officiating. Visitation will be from Noon on Saturday until the time of service at the CHURCH. Burial will be in Orfordville Lutheran Cemetery, Orfordville.
