Phyllis R. Laursen, Clinton, WI (1941 - 2012)

Phyllis R. Laursen, 71, of Clinton, WI, died peacefully surrounded by her family on Tuesday, Oct. 16, 2012, in her home. She was born on Sept. 8, 1941, in Mount Hope, WI, the daughter of Otto E. and Bernice Mara Hopkins. Phyllis was a 1958 graduate of Clinton High School. She married LeRoy L. Laursen on Feb. 27, 1959. He predeceased her on Sept. 3, 2005. Phyllis was employed by Meadow Park Nursing Home and Harbor House, retiring in March of 2012. For many years, she was a Turtle 4H leader. Phyllis was a member of St. Stephen’s Catholic Church. She enjoyed gardening, canning, fishing up north, and anything outdoors. She especially loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Phyllis enjoyed her “special” treasurers of Elvis and John Wayne. Her shopping moto was “if it spins, flashes, or makes noise,” she bought it. Phyllis also loved to play cards and games with her family and she was in it to win.
Phyllis is survived by her mother, Bernice Hopkins of Clinton, WI; her children: Janet (Chuck) Statton of Clinton, WI, Tim (Sue Ellen) Laursen of Orland, CA, Larry (friend Patti Kroening) Laursen of Beloit, WI, Tricia (Charlie) Bennett of Shirland, IL, and LeRoy T. Laursen of Beloit; 10 grandchildren: Kristen (Jeremy) Franseen, Kyle (Kendra) Statton, Korey (friend Bobbi Wellnitz) Statton, Lee Watson, Matt (friend Dessa Morris) Laursen, Kelsey Laursen, Jake Laursen, Jenna Laursen, Dalton Bennett and Logan Bennett; six great-grandchildren: Zach DuCharme, Nathan DuCharme, Morgan Franseen, Olivia Gunnink, Trista Gunnink and Jenna Gunnink; her brother, Donald (Katy) Hopkins of California; her best friend, Betty ( Bill ) Walter of Beloit; nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her husband, LeRoy; and her father, Otto Hopkins.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 20, 2012, at ST. STEPHEN’S CATHOLIC CHURCH, 716 ShuLar Lane, Clinton, WI, with Father Bill Connell officiating. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until time of Mass at the CHURCH.
