Kenneth R. Hefty, Janesville  (1941 - 2012)

Kenneth R. Hefty, age 70, of Janesville, died on Wednesday, Oct. 10, 2012, at his home. He was born in Monroe, WI, on Nov. 22, 1941, the son of the late Conrad and Margaret (Patterson) Hefty. Ken served in the United States Army from 1964 until honorably discharged in 1967. On May 18, 1968, he married Mary Kay Hornyak of Chicago, IL, at St. Patrick's Church in Janesville.
Ken worked at the Sheehan Shoe Store after returning to Janesville, and owned and operated it from 1975 until 1995. He then worked at Morgan Shoes in Madison until his retirement. He was an active member of the Janesville Lions and Optimist Clubs for many years. He participated in many Janesville Athletic Leagues, including basketball and softball. Ken was an honest, generous, and loyal person. He was known for his humor and ability to befriend pretty much anyone he encountered.
Ken is survived by his wife of over 44 years, Mary Kay; two children, Stephen (Sarah) Hefty of Milton, and Margaret (Michael) Matray of Chicago, IL; grandchildren: Elaina (Matthew) Basile of Milwaukee, Patrick Josephson of Edgerton, and a precious grandbaby due in November; and great-granddaughter, Maria Basile. He is further survived by three sisters, two brothers, and five brothers and sisters-in-law. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a sister, a brother, two brothers-in-law and two nephews.
A Memorial Mass will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 18, 2012, at ST. MARY CATHOLIC CHURCH, 313 Wall St., Janesville, with Rev. Stephen Umhoefer officiating. Visitation will be on Thursday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service at the church. In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, it would be greatly appreciated if memorials were made to Ken's family to be distributed to his designated charities.
