James Francis Murphy, Janesville/formerly Elkhorn, WI  (1931 - 2012)

James Francis Murphy, age 81, of Janesville, WI, and formerly of Elkhorn, WI, died Thursday, Nov. 22, 2012 at his home. He was born on Feb. 17, 1931, in Milwaukee, WI, the son of the late Bernard Joseph and Mabel Agnes (Langley) Murphy. On Aug. 6, 1952, in Elkhorn, WI, he was united in marriage to Marjorie Ann Hartwell. She preceded him in death on Feb. 15, 1985. James served in the U.S. Army from Jan. 12, 1951, until discharge on April 21, 1952. He served as a Private First Class as a Paratrooper in the 187th Regiment of the 101st Airborne Division. James worked for 34 years as a postal clerk for the Elkhorn Post Office. He moved to Janesville in 1995.
James was a former member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church. He was a member of the Elkhorn VFW Post #6375 and the American Legion Post #45. He enjoyed doing crossword puzzles and keeping in touch with his old classmates. He especially enjoyed his grandchildren.
James is survived by his children: Judith McCann (James McCann) of Burlington, WI, Daniel Murphy of Delavan, WI, Nancy Murphy of Elkhorn, WI, Kathleen Winden of Delavan, and Colleen Berg of Janesville, WI; 11 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; one sister, Patricia Flynn of Cleverdale, NY; one brother, Thomas (Patricia) Murphy of Elkhorn; and his best friend, Milt “Woody” Woodman of Janesville, WI. He was preceded in death by two grandsons, Bernard Murphy and Vernon Paulson.
A Memorial Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 30, 2012, at ST. PATRICK’S CATHOLIC CHURCH in Elkhorn, WI. Inurnment will follow in Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
