Joan Nelson, age 79, of Janesville, died on Thursday, Nov. 15, 2012, at Mercy Hospital & Trauma Center. She was born in Janesville on Feb. 8, 1933, the daughter of George and Eva (Pierce) Rector. She attended Madison East High School. Joan married Claire Nelson in Dubuque, IA, on June 2, 1952. Joan enjoyed gambling and loved to read. She loved her family, especially her grandkids, she enjoyed being a “substitute” Messenger delivery person for her grandchildren.
Joan is survived by her loving husband, Claire Nelson of Janesville; daughter, Debi (Al) O’Leary of Janesville; four grandchildren: Stephanie O’Leary of Janesville, Michael O’Leary of Greenville, SC, Eric O’Leary of Columbia, MD, and Kevin O’Leary of Janesville; sister, Dorothy Busse of Rice Lake, WI; brother, Don (Connie) Rector of Madison; many other extended family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; and sister, Delores Duane.
