Maxine Elizabeth (Gunderson) Nobiensky, 91, of Janesville, passed away on Tuesday, Nov. 13, 2012, at Evansville Manor. She is now able to once again skip, jump rope, and do cartwheels in heaven. Also known as Max or Mackie, she was born on May 25, 1921, in Orfordville, WI, the daughter of Alvin and Stella (Thompson) Gunderson. Max graduated from Janesville High School in 1938, and was very proud to have worked her way through the University of LaCrosse, graduating in 1942, with a degree in Physical Education. On June 18, 1948, she married Stewart C. Nobiensky and they had four children: Terry, Dale, Connie and Lee. He predeceased her on June 13, 1988. Max taught at Janesville High School from 1942 until 1950, when she was required to stop teaching because she started a family. She resumed teaching at Marshall Jr. High (the old Janesville High School) from 1963, until her retirement in 1983. She loved her job and coaching girls swim, volleyball and basketball. Maxine was an active member of First Lutheran Church and in retirement worked for many years on the Altar Guild. She also loved to golf and could be found on the golf course as soon as the snow melted in the spring until it closed in the fall. In 1985, she received the YWCA Woman of Distinction Award. She is a life member of Wisconsin Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance; member of Kappa Delta Pi; Janesville Area Retired Educators' Association; Wisconsin Retired Educators' Association; and Charter member of Jefferson Elementary School's Breakfast Club. Maxine had a positive attitude and was always willing to help others. She will be greatly missed.
Maxine is survived by her children: Terry Nobiensky of Janesville, Dale Nobiensky of Janesville, Dr. Connie (Dr. Jim) Winter of Edgerton, Lee (Susan) Nobiensky of Stoughton; grandchildren: Sam Nobiensky of Milwaukee, Max Nobiensky of La Crosse, Stewart Winter of Madison, and Mikki Heckman of Stoughton; brother, Vince Gunderson of Florida; sister, June (Phil) Gaarder of Florida; special friends, Lyle and Bernice Amundson of Orfordville; many nieces, nephews and cousins. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 17, 2012, in the CHAPEL AT MILTON LAWNS MEMORIAL PARK with Rev. James Melvin officiating. Memorials would be greatly appreciated if they were made in Maxine's name to First Lutheran Church Foundation or Evansville Manor.
Mackie's family would like to thank all the wonderful staff at Evansville Manor, Agrace HospiceCare and Home Health United for their wonderful care and support they have provided the last few months.
