Janet M. Melgard, Janesville  (1934 - 2012)

Janet M. Melgard, age 77, of Janesville, died Friday, Jan. 27, 2012, at her home. She was born in Warren, MN, on May 31, 1934, the daughter of Julius and Lydia (Obst) Schaefer, and graduated from the Northwest School of Agriculture in Crookston, MN. She married Richard D. Melgard on Dec. 12, 1954, in Janesville; he preceded her in death on Feb. 19, 2010. Janet worked as a teacher’s aide for the School District of Janesville for nearly 30 years. She was a member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church and had enjoyed her bible studies, playing the organ, genealogy, playing cards, and spending time socializing with family and friends.
She is survived by her daughter, Linda (Dan) Zumstein of Janesville; a grandson, Jason Collins of Janesville; brother-in-law, Calvin (Betty) Melgard of Warren, MN; special friends: Jill and Mike Rowe, Jamie and Ann Wilson and their family, all of Janesville; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; two brothers, William and Robert Schaefer; and a sister, Dorothy Schaefer.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 3, 2012, at ST. PETER’S LUTHERAN CHURCH, Janesville, with Rev. Bruce Gray officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery. Visitation will take place on Friday from 10 a.m. until the hour of service at the CHURCH. Memorials may be made to St. Peter’s Lutheran Church or the American Diabetes Association.
