Leonard J. "Lenny" Gretebeck Sr., 73, of Edgerton passed away on Tues., Jan. 24, 2012, at his home with his loving family at his side. He was born on Dec. 22, 1938, in Stoughton, son of the late Selmer and Eleanor (Bratland) Gretebeck. He was united in marriage on June 12, 1959, to Hillechien Oosterbeek, in Amsterdam, Netherlands. He was a member of the Seventh-Day Adventist Church of Janesville.
Lenny was very involved with his church, where he was an elder, on the school board and very influential in the building of the school. He loved volunteering for anything that needed to be done for the church. He enjoyed mowing his lawn and fixing things. He was a Veteran of the United States Army, stationed in Germany where he met his beloved wife, Hilly.
He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Hilly, Edgerton; one daughter, Emmy (Ron) Handley, South Beloit, IL; two sons, Richard (Jeanne) Gretebeck, Duarte, CA and Leonard Getebeck Jr, Edgerton; two grandchildren, Amber and Jessie; one sister, Darlene Dorn, Oregon, WI; one brother, Sanford (Lois) Gretebeck, Burlington; many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by one son, Raymond; and one brother, Edwin.
A Memorial service will be held at Noon on Sunday, January 29, 2012, at the SEVENTH-DAY ADVENTIST CHURCH, (Woodland Christian School) 4324 E Binham Rd, Janesville, WI, with Pastor James Van Arsdale and Pastor Pavel Goia officiating. A celebration of Lenny's life will be from 11 a.m. until the time of the service. In Lieu of other expressions of sympathy, memorials may be made to the Veterans Administration of Madison or Agrace Hospice of Janesville. The EHLERT FUNERAL HOME and CREMATION SERVICES of Edgerton is assisting the family.
