George E. Coen, 87, of Beloit, WI, died Sunday, Jan. 22, 2012, at Hospice of the Valley, Sun City, AZ. A resident of Beloit, WI, since 1977, George was born June 4, 1924, in Janesville, WI, the son of Darby J. and Martha (Lake) Coen. George was a 1941 graduate of Janesville High School. He married Suzanne G. Schenck on August 31, 1946, in Janesville, WI. She predeceased him on February. 20, 1989.
George was a farmer and farmed his own land in the town of La-Prairie, WI, retiring in 1971. He worked at Freeman Shoe Company from 1970 to 1988. George was a Green Bay Packer and Milwaukee Brewer fan. He was a member of St. Jude Catholic Church.
Survivors include his children: Mark Coen of Chicago, IL, Edward (Renee) Coen of Green Bay, WI, Nancy (Ken) Spector of Winnetka, IL, Sarah King of Glendale, AZ, and Macia Coen of Peoria, AZ; grandchildren: Joy Coen, Catherine Spector, David Spector, Rebecca Spector, Nick (Angelia) King, and Melissa (Jamie) Addison; great-grandchildren, Macie Lingenfelder, Jerome and Taylor King, Willow and Jackson Addison.
He was predeceased by his parents and brother, Harry Coen.
A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, January 27, 2012, in ST. JUDE CATHOLIC CHURCH, 747 Hackett Street, Beloit, WI, with Fr. John Hedrick officiating. Inurnment will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until the time of service Friday in the CHURCH.
