Robert G. Lovell, Janesville (1923 - 2012)
Robert G. Lovell, age 89, of Janesville, died Saturday, Jan. 21, 2012, at Select Specialty Hospital, Madison. He was born in River Falls, WI, on Jan. 2, 1923, the son of Byrne and Sadie (Megorden) Lovell. Bob served in the US Army Air Corps during WWII in the South Pacific. He was a rear gunner aboard the B-29 bombers and had survived 3 crashes. Upon his discharge, he returned to Wisconsin and obtained degrees in Agriculture and Mathematics. After a brief time as a teacher in the Lodi school district, he began a career with the USDA as Rock County Supervisor for the FHA program. He held this position from 1956 until his retirement in 1981. Bob married Irene F. Gense on Oct. 30, 1948 in Shell Lake, WI. He was a member of the Warbirds. Bob and Irene wintered many years in Tucson, AZ, where he loved rock polishing, leatherwork and painting. He was also an avid hunter and fisherman.
He is survived by his wife, Irene; 3 children: Don (Chris) Lovell of Milton, Jane Marcks of Edgerton, and Laura (Patrick) Turk of Joliet, IL; 5 grandchildren: Scott (Gail) Lovell, Michelle (Chris) Green, Josh (Katy) Marcks, Katie and Maggie Turk; 6 great grandchildren: Malorie, Ryan, Seth, Jacob, Alayna and Brecklen; and a sister, Bernice Wolf of River Falls, WI. He was preceded in death by his parents; a granddaughter, Laura Lovell Hessenauer; and a sister, Dorothy Winans.
Private family memorial services will take place on Saturday, Jan. 28, 2012, at the SCHNEIDER APFEL SCHNEIDER & SCHNEIDER FUNERAL HOME and CREMATORY, Janesville. Pastor Jerry Amstutz will officiate.
