Richard "Dick" Byrne, Janesville (1934 - 2012)

Richard “Dick” Byrne, 77, of Janesville, WI, formerly of Shullsburg, WI, passed away Monday, Jan. 30, 2012, at his home. He was born on Sept. 2, 1934, in Hazel Green, WI, the son of Vincent and Mary (Timmins) Byrne. Dick graduated from Shullsburg High School in 1952. He was united in marriage to Rose Mary Ryan on Nov. 10, 1956, in Shullsburg; she preceded him in death. Dick lived in Shullsburg until moving to Janesville in 1965. Dick worked for General Motors in Janesville from 1965 until his retirement from its Fort Wayne, IN, location in 1999. He was united in marriage to Phyllis Angilello on May 9, 1986, in Janesville.
Dick is survived by his wife, Phyllis; four children: Marilyn Shea of Monroe, WI, Patrick (Debbie) Byrne of Fort Wayne, John Byrne of Janesville, and David (Lynelle) Byrne of Stoughton, WI; 14 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; one brother, Joseph (Jeri) Byrne of Shullsburg; one sister-in-law, Florence Byrne of Shullsburg; one brother-in-law, Sal DeFrancesca of Mount Prospect, IL; and a special friend, his dog Katy.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Bob Byrne; and two sisters, Catherine DeFrancesca and Sally (Cletus) Gile.
Dick was a member of St. John Vianney Catholic Church in Janesville and a member of UAW (United Auto Workers) Local #2209. He enjoyed hunting and golfing. Dick was an avid baseball fan and played semipro baseball in his earlier years. He was also an avid Brewers, Packers, and Badgers fan.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Feb. 3, 2012, at ST. MATTHEW’S CATHOLIC CHURCH, 344 North Judgement Street in Shullsburg, with Rev. John Bosco Pudhota and Rev. Randy Timmerman of St. John Vianney Catholic Parish in Janesville concelebrating. A visitation will be held Friday, Feb. 3, 2012, from 10:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. at the O’FLAHRITY-ERICKSON FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATION SERVICES, 235 North Judgement Street in Shullsburg.
