Nettie Jane Witt, Edgerton  (1923 - 2012)

September 1, 1923 - January 30, 2012
Nettie Jane Witt, 88, of Edgerton, died on Monday, Jan. 30, 2012, at Edgerton Long Term Care Center, with her family by her side. She was born in Janesville on Sept. 1, 1923, the oldest daughter of 17 children born to the late Frank and Florence (McGraw) Mabie. Nettie was baptized and confirmed in her faith at St. Paul's Ev. Lutheran Church in Janesville. On Jan. 1, 1942, Nettie married Arthur H. Witt at St. John Ev. Lutheran Church in Edgerton. He predeceased her on Oct. 13, 1981. Nettie was a very active member of St. John Ev. Lutheran Church for many years, where she was involved with the Service Guild.
When she was younger, Nettie worked as a nanny and later Nunn Bush Shoe Factory. After raising her family, Nettie returned to Nunn Bush and worked until she retired in 1981. Nettie was a very adventurous lady, who started bowling and golfing after her husband died. She wasn't one to stay idle for very long. She enjoyed fishing with her grandchildren, traveling, baking, sewing, and an occasional gambling trip. Nettie was a classy, happy, loving, and caring woman, who had the most infectious laugh. If she wasn't laughing, Nettie could be heard singing or humming one of her favorite hymns or songs. She made the best German potato salad, baked beans, and cherry-filled cookies anyone could ask for. She loved being around her family, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren, and she was very proud of each and everyone of them.
She is survived by her three children: Cynthia (Roger) Geske, Douglas (Jane) Witt, and Phillip (Sharee) Witt, all of Edgerton; six grandchildren: Jane (Bill) Pulcine, Jim (Suzanne) Geske, Rebecca (Mike) Westrick, Michael (Jan) Witt, Amber (Jason) Lyons, and Abby (Travis) Larson; 11 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. She is further survived by three brothers: Leslie (Jean) Mabie of Stoughton, WI, Richard (Mary Sue) Mabie of Hanover, WI, and Denis (Ruth) Mabie of Clinton, WI; six sisters: Mary Tomaszweski of Fort Worth, TX, Martha Rinker of Janesville, Charlene Olson of Muscoda, WI, Joyce Kinzer of Dallas, TX, Nancy Schmit of Janesville, and Virginia Walters of Memphis, TN; brother-in-law, Richard Witt of Edgerton; sister-in-law, Virginia Mabie of Beloit; many nieces, nephews and their families.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her great-grandson, Jason Pulcine; her sister, Jean Glackin; and six brothers: Bernard, Jackson, Frank, Robert, Darrell, and Jerry Mabie.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 3, 2012, at ST. JOHN EV. LUTHERAN CHURCH in EDGERTON, with Rev. Carl Seeger officiating. Visitation will be on Thursday from 4 until 7 p.m. at the WHITCOMB-LYNCH-ALBRECHT FUNERAL HOME, EDGERTON, and again on Friday morning from 10 a.m. until the time of the service at the CHURCH. Interment will be next to her husband at Fassett Cemetery. Memorials would be greatly appreciated if they were made to St. John Ev. Lutheran Church, Edgerton.
