Donald L. Deegan, Edgerton, WI  (1923 - 2012)

Donald L. Deegan, 89, of Edgerton, passed away on Saturday, Dec. 22, 2012, at his home, with his loving family by his side. He was born on April 16, 1923, in Janesville, son of the late William and Madeline (Kelly) Deegan. He was united in marriage on Feb. 11, 1945, to Catherine Reilly, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, in San Diego, CA. She preceded him in death on, Nov. 25, 2009. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Edgerton. Don worked at the A&P and Sentry grocery stores before purchasing the Deegan Hardware Store of Edgerton. He enjoyed working, reading, hunting, fishing, playing cards, listening to music and dancing. He was a member of the Edgerton VFW and the Knights of Columbus. Don was a Sgt. Major in the United States Marine Corps in the South Pacific, during WWII. His special love was spending time with his family and grandchildren.
Donald is survived by three daughters: Kathy Mumm of Minneapolis, MN, Chris (George) Wellenkotter and Anne (Dan) Learn; fours sons: Dennis (Sharon) Deegan, Mark (Holly) Deegan, Patrick Deegan and Donny (Tracy) Deegan, all of Edgerton; 16 grandchildren: Jill (Chris) Deegan-Wileman, Margie (Tom) Deegan-Mau, Danny (Andrea) Deegan, Kyle Deegan, Jesse and Dr. Philip Mumm, Matt and Jedd Wellenkotter, Katie and Luke Deegan, Staff Sgt. Cody Deegan, Joe Deegan, Josh Learn, Evan, Brennan and Sam Deegan; five great-grandchildren: Gunnar and Ben Wileman, Caitlin Mau, Walker Deegan and Nora Deegan; two sisters, Joyce Vale of Florida; and Marilyn "Micki" (Fred Meyers) Purnell of Busseyville; four brothers: Eugene Deegan of Oxford; WI, John (Phyllis) Deegan of Stoughton, WI, Robert (Elizabeth) Deegan of Oregon; WI, and Richard (Charlene) Deegan of Janesville; three sisters-in-law: Marie Deegan of Brooklyn, WI, Ruth Reilly of Edgerton and Nola Reilly of Edgerton; two brothers-in-law, Phil (Jean) Reilly of Edgerton and Elgin Fay of Stoughton; special neighbors, the Ken and Nancy Buhrow family; and special friends: Libby, Ava and Harrison; many nieces; nephews; cousins and friends. He is preceded in death by one grandson, James Deegan; one sister, Mary Jane; two brothers, William Jr. and Joseph; and one sister-in-law, Delores.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Noon on Friday, Dec. 28, 2012, at ST. JOSEPH'S CATHOLIC CHURCH, Edgerton, with Father David Timmerman, officiating, Burial will be in the Fulton cemetery. Friends may call at the CHURCH on Friday, from 10 a.m. until the time of the service. Full Military services will be held at the cemetery, by the Edgerton Memorial Squad.
