Sue Larson, 76, of Milton, WI, passed away on Thursday, Dec. 13, 2012, at Agrace HospiceCare in Fitchburg, two days after a sudden stoke. Melva Sue Larson was born on Oct. 29, 1936, in a log cabin near Athens, TX, to Alma and Stokes Conway. She grew up during the Depression and lived for a time in a boxcar. She graduated from Jacksonville (Texas) High School and from St. Paul’s School of Nursing in Dallas, TX. She later earned a Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Nursing from Milton College.
Sue married David Larson on Sept. 14, 1956, on a 105 degree day in Dallas, TX. Sue proudly worked as a nurse for 40 years, most recently for 29 years at Edgerton Hospital. After retirement, she continued her involvement in nursing as a member of the Edgerton Hospital Board and participated in the design of the new Edgerton Hospital. Sue was an active member of the community. She volunteered at the Milton Community Action food pantry, the Gathering Place, and as a 40-year member of the Milton Plan Commission.
Sue enjoyed creating quilts for others, walking with her neighbor Mary, working in the yard, and especially, spending time with her family and eleven grandchildren. She was a member of the Milton Seventh Day Baptist Church and enjoyed singing hymns, especially Christmas carols from July through January.
Sue is survived by her husband of 56 years, Dave; her children: Sarah (John) Lima, Keith Larson, and Ann (Quentin Yoerger) Larson. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Sam (Abby) Lima, Jenna Larson, Chris Larson, Tom (Katie) Lima, Brad Larson, James Lima, Ben Lima, Kayleen Larson, Geoff Yoerger, Zoe Yoerger, and Reiana Larson; as well as one great-grandson, Riley Black. She is further survived by a sister, Pat (Leslie) Day; sister-in-law, Nancy Conway; numerous other relatives; and special friends, Anna and Jim Furlano. She was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Frieda Conway; and her brother, Carroll Conway.
Visitation will be from 5 until 7 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 20, at ALBRECHT FUNERAL HOMES & CREMATION SERVICES, MILTON, and on Friday, Dec. 21, from 10 until 11 a.m. at the MILTON SEVENTH DAY BAPTIST CHURCH. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 21, at the MILTON SEVENTH DAY BAPTIST CHURCH. Private burial for family will follow the funeral at the Rock River Cemetery in Milton Township. A luncheon will be served at the church following the funeral service and burial.
In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, a memorial donation may be made to the Milton Community Action food pantry, 36 Hilltop Drive.
