Shut Shan Yue, Beloit, WI (1932 - 2012)
June 8, 1932 - December 10, 2012
Shut Shan Yue, known to many simply as “Yue”, 80, of Beloit, WI, passed away in his home on Dec. 10, 2012. Yue was born in China on June 8, 1932. As a young man he traveled extensively. Yue immigrated from his village of Taishan to the United States with several male relatives to work at a Chinese restaurant in Oak Park, IL. Although he never graduated from high school, he taught himself English and became a citizen of the United States. He prided himself on his spelling. He was smarter than a fifth grader and often bested his grandson in Scrabble. He worked in several Chinese restaurants since then. Most notably, he co-owned Sunset Supper Club in Janesville, WI, in the 70’s and 80’s. He also owns what is now, Ming’s on Madison in Beloit, WI.
When Yue retired, he enjoyed watching television. His favorite shows were wrestling, Bonanza and the 700 Club. He enjoyed going to Ho Chunk with his wife and reminiscing about voyages to Ocean Island where he once worked on an oil rig drill ship.
Yue was married to Wan in 1978; they were married 34 years.
Yue is survived by his wife, Bik Wan; daughters, HoSze and Ming; and grandchildren, Johnson and Jolie.
It was his wish to be cremated. To honor and celebrate Yue’s life, a Chinese wake will be held at MING’S ON MADISON at 1309 Madison Rd., in Beloit, WI, on Sunday, Dec. 23, 2012, from 12 until 4 p.m.
