Kenneth "Mike" Heenan, Janesville (1942 - 2012)
Kenneth “Mike” Heenan died unexpectedly at his home on Sunday, December 2, 2012. Mike was born on September 23, 1942 to Kenneth and Dorothy (Van Hise) Heenan. Mike attended Janesville schools through the 9th grade in Special Education classes. He was employed his entire life and started his kitchen career with the Schwartzlow family at Krauses Town and Country Restaurant. He worked there for 30 plus years until the restaurant’s closing. After that he worked at Bishop’s Buffet, McDonalds, and finally at Best Events. After his retirement, he volunteered at The Salvation Army four days a week. Mike was never one to sit at home. In the winter months, after his volunteer work, he could be seen at one of his two bowling leagues, or at one of the local grocery stores wandering the aisles looking for good deals. In the summer, he was a member of the Special Olympics Bocce ball league. He was a pretty good cook, but most of his specialties involved a deep fryer. Mike loved the Badgers, Brewers, and the Packers and you could be sure that when you saw Mike, he would be wearing one of his team’s tee shirts. He especially liked attending his nephew’s baseball and hockey games, especially if the concession stand was open and he could get a bag of popcorn.
Mike is survived by his loving family, brother, Doug and his wife, Sandy; his nieces, Kendra Joyce of Janesville and Holly Heenan of Madison; and his great nephew and niece, Conor and Ellen Joyce. He is also survived by his aunts and uncles: Bob Holden of Janesville, John and Laurel VanHise of California, Joan Widener of Nevada; and many cousins. He was predeceased by his parents and his special friend, “Cousin Paulie” Paul Bier.
Mike’s family would like to thank Nancy Bennett of the former South Central Cerebral Palsy group, the staff at the Independent Disability Services and the Salvation Army for their relationship with Mike.
