Dr. Jeffrey S. Gibson, Janesville (1962 - 2012)
November 26, 1962 – April 9, 2012
Dr. Jeffrey S Gibson, beloved husband, father, son, friend and colleague, died of a basilar artery thrombosis while traveling in Rome, Italy, on April 9, 2012. Dr Gibson had been in Italy presenting research on Restless Leg Syndrome at the World Sclerotherapy Conference in Florence.
Jeffrey was born in Meadville, Pennsylvania, to John and Amy Gibson and raised with his two brothers, Gregory and Timothy in Linesville, Pennsylvania. He attended the Pennsylvania State University (Class of 1985) where he met his wife, Maureen, in 1981. They were married in 1984. He attended the University Of Pittsburgh School Of Medicine (Class of 1989). His first son, John Alexander was born during medical school in 1987. He served in the US Navy from 1987-1997 where he was assigned to the USS Shreveport during the first Gulf War. He delivered his second son, Jeffrey Nicholas in 1990 just days before leaving for the war. He completed his residency in Emergency Medicine while at the Portsmouth Naval Hospital, Virginia. His first assignment as an Emergency Specialist was at the Naval Station in Jacksonville, Florida. Jeffrey left the military in 1997 to begin his career in the private sector. He worked in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania for three years before moving his family out of the big city in favor of the quiet Midwestern town of Janesville, Wisconsin. Jeffrey worked in Emergency Medicine for another five years with Southern Wisconsin Emergency Associates. In 2005, Dr Gibson decided to learn a new specialty - Phlebology. He joined Vein Clinics of America where he became a board certified Phlebologist. He was very excited about the work that was being done to cure leg pain in his patients. His work in Phlebology was the highlight of his medical career. This was the third conference in which he had presented his award winning research.
Jeffrey was a devoted husband and father, spending much of his free time enjoying hobbies with his family or traveling. He spent many happy hours at his sons sporting events, shooting, hunting, fishing, martial arts, astronomy, magic, boating, photography, video games, and playing with his puppies. He was definitely a kid at heart with many more things he still wanted to learn.
