Maria T. Thurner, Janesville  (1926 - 2011)

Maria T. Thurner, age 85, of Janesville, died on Wednesday, Dec. 7, 2011, at home. She was born in Puerto Rico on June 15, 1926, the daughter of Rafael Colon and Engry Rodriguez (Ga-ray) Santini. She attended the Monsignor Willinger Academy and the University of Puerto Rico, where she then transferred to the Ray Vogue School of Design in Chicago. She met Marvin E. Thurner in Chicago and they married on May 28, 1948, and together they had three children. Maria had been a former resident of Chicago and moved to Janesville after her marriage. She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and a former member of St. Patrick Catholic Church, where she belonged to the St. Patrick’s Ladies Association. She was a member of the R.C.C.C.W., the International Affairs Commission, the Janesville Senior Center, where she enjoyed water color painting, porcelain painting, and learned how to do bobbin lace and hardanger, and was a member of the International Old Lacers and Badger Lacers Group.
Maria is survived by her husband, Marvin E. Thurner; three children: Terry R. Thurner of Sacramento, CA, Veronica C. Everson of Appleton, WI, and Angela T. (Robert) Ellis of Hydesville, CA; nine grandchildren: London Thurner, Wendy Thurner, Karen Thurner, Nicole Ellis, Shanel Reeves, Kristin Vandenberg, Rider Everson, Erica Everson and Jared Everson; and nine great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Vinicio Colon Rodriguez; and sister, Loche Casalles.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 10, 2011, at ST. MARY’S CATHOLIC CHURCH, Janesville with Rev. Stephen J. Umhoefer officiating. A visitation will be held on Saturday from 10 until 11 a.m. at the CHURCH. Interment will be in Milton Lawns Memorial Park.
