Vincent C. Getka, 70, Sharon, WI, was called to his heavenly home on Tuesday, March 16, 2010, in St. Luke’s Medical Center, Milwaukee, WI, surrounded by his family. He was born on July 4, 1939, in Burlington, WI, the son of Elmer and Vesta (Minnis) Getka. Vince was a graduate of Salem Central High School. He was a loving husband to Jean Ahler. They were married on Jan. 14, 1961, in St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Lyons, WI.
Vince was a very active farmer for over 40 years in Sharon. He loved to play cards and spend time with his family and friends. Vince was a member of St. Andrew’s Catholic Church, Delavan, WI.
Survivors include his loving wife of 49 years, Jean Getka of Sharon; nine children: Rick (JoEllen) Getka of Darien, WI, Bob (Susan) Getka of Janesville, WI, Patty (Lee) VanVoorhees of Marengo, IL, Mike (Kate) Getka of Grays Lake, IL, Charlie (Sandra) Getka of Elkhorn, WI, Bill (Laura) Getka of Cary, IL, Joan (Gene) Zadzilka of Fitchburg, WI, Ann (Oliver) Wieben of Madison, WI, and Amy (Nick) Miller of Fitchburg, WI; 20 grandchildren; brother, Walt (Leola) Getka of Burlington, WI; sisters, Barb Bloss of Buffalo Grove, IL, and Mary (Tim) McLafferty of Salem, WI; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; and a grandson, Jonathan Getka.
Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 20, 2010, in ST. ANDREW’S CATHOLIC CHURCH, 714 E. Walworth Avenue, Delavan, with Fr. Jim Schuerman officiating. Burial will be in St. Andrew’s Cemetery, Delavan. Visitation will be from 4 until 8 p.m. Friday in the BETZER FUNERAL HOME, 118 S. 2nd St., Delavan, with a Scripture service at 4 p.m. Visitation will also be on Saturday from 10 a.m. until the time of service in the CHURCH. DALEY MURPHY WISCH & ASSOCIATES FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATORIUM, 2355 Cranston Rd., Beloit, assisted the family with arrangements.
