Mary Christina Witek, Milton  (1912 - 2010)

September 8, 1912 - March 11, 2010
Mary Christina Witek, 97, of rural Janesville, died on Thursday, March 11, 2010, at Rock Haven Nursing Home. She was born on the family farm in Grant Co., WI, Castle Rock Township, on Sept. 8, 1912, the daughter of the late Joseph and Mary (Svitak) Kohout. She married Fred Witek on Nov. 27, 1935. They both worked together on their farm near the other Witek families at Castle Rock Ridge near Montfort, WI, joyfully bringing into the world three sons: Donald, Frederick, and Kenneth. She shared the same birthday as her mother and her son, Don. Her husband was tragically and suddenly taken from his family in a farm accident on Feb. 12, 1941.
Mary's husband's brother, William, offered to marry her. She accepted, and they were married on Oct. 7, 1942; he predeceased her on Aug. 23, 1966. After many lean years of farming, they eventually moved to Milton. They both brought their good work ethics to work at the Rock County Farm and Rock County Health Care Center. Mary worked long hours as a nurse's aide at Rock County Health Care Center, retiring in 1974. She was a longtime member of St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Milton.
Grandma loved to cook and bake. She loved nothing better than to share with her family her poppy seed biscuits, prune dumplings, pies, and all of the wonderful meals she put together. Grandma learned to crochet and made several beautiful afghans to pass on to her family that we will cherish for a long time.
She is survived by her three children: Donald (Agnes) Witek of Milton, Fred (Carol) Witek of Janesville, and Kenneth Witek of Janesville; three grandchildren: Donna Flees of Milwaukee, WI, Deb (Charles) Mitchell of Hales Corners, WI, and Dr. Diane Witek of Waukesha, WI; and five great-grandchildren: Joseph and Sam Flees, and Mary, Elias, and Isaac Mitchell. She is further survived by her sister, Helen Witek of Montfort, WI; many nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
In addition to her parents and both husbands, she was preceded in death by her sister, Rosie Witek; and her brother, Frank Kohout.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, March 20, 2010, at ST. MARY OF THE IMMACULATE CONCEPTION CATHOLIC CHURCH IN MILTON, with Msgr. James Uppena officiating. Visitation will be on Saturday morning from 10:30 a.m. until the time of the Mass at the CHURCH, with a Rosary beginning at 10:15 a.m. Graveside services will take place at St. John Nepomuc Catholic Cemetery in Castle Rock Township, Grant Co., WI, beginning at 3 p.m. on Saturday. A memorial service will be held at Rock Haven at a later date. Memorials would be greatly appreciated if they were made in Mary's name to St. Mary Catholic Church, Milton.
A warm and heartfelt thank you to the entire staff at Rock Haven Nursing Home for the wonderful care you have given to our mother...Continue singing..."You are my sunshine, my only sunshine, you make me happy, when skies are gray!"
