Allen T. Gilmour, Beloit  (1928 - 2010)

November 15, 1928 - July 7, 2010
Allen T. Gilmour, 81, Beloit, WI, passed away on Wednesday, July 7, 2010, at the Don and Marilyn Anderson HospiceCare, Inc., Fitchburg, WI, after a brief, but powerful, battle with cancer.
He was born on Nov. 15, 1928, in Roscoe Township, IL, the son of William Lloyd and Helen (Piercy) Gilmour. Allen grew up on a farm, and always had farming in his heart. He married June Jacobson on Sept. 30, 1950; she predeceased him on Oct. 1, 1999. He and his family moved to a farm outside of Orfordville in 1960, where he crop-farmed and raised chickens for many years. Even after selling the land, Allen continued to love farming and would travel to Streeter, IL, to help his great friend, Otis Ruff. He also retired from the Wisconsin Power & Light Company after many years of service.
Both Allen and June enjoyed spending time with their family and making time to go to “the boats” to gamble a bit. In earlier years, Allen enjoyed a variety of fishing and even tried his hand at salmon fishing in Lake Michigan. When he got a new hobby, he always ended up going “overboard.” Examples were his fishing lures, wines and beers, and his woodturning. Some of the best times he had were hunting with his sons and brothers.
Survivors include his children: Karen (Clarence) Peters of Oregon, WI, Wayne (Joyce) Gilmour of Brooklyn, WI, Arthur (Teresa) Gilmour of Brodhead, WI, and Roy (Kim) Gilmour of Milton, WI; many grandchildren; three great grandchildren; two brothers; one sister; and his very special friend, Barb Myers.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Steven Gilmour; four brothers; and three sisters.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 10, 2010, in the DALEY MURPHY WISCH & ASSOCIATES FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATORIUM, 2355 Cranston Rd., Beloit, WI, with Bob Ohlsen officiating. Burial will be in Floral Lawns Memorial Gardens, South Beloit, IL. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until the time of service Saturday in the funeral home. In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, memorials may be given in his name to HospiceCare Inc., 5395 E. Cheryl Pkwy., Fitchburg, WI 53711. Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.daleymurphywisch.com.
