Gloria "Jean" (Hood) Cyra, East Troy  (1944 - 2009)

April 6, 1944 - October 14, 2009
Gloria “Jean” (Hood) Cyra, 65, of East Troy, passed away in the early morning of Oct. 14, 2009, after a long battle with cancer. She was born on April 6, 1944, to Jack and Gloria Hood in Miami, FL. After raising her children, Jean received her bachelor's degree and devoted much of her time towards caring for others. She worked for many years as a Registered Nurse and was a foster parent and advocate for special needs children. She loved to spend time with her family and friends, take in horse shows at her daughter’s horse farm, and travel, especially in the Northwoods and to her home state of Florida.
She is survived by her beloved husband of 45 years, Bob; her children: Julie (David Lavallee) Cyra, Rob (Lois) Cyra, and Derek Cyra; her first grandchild, Ethan, and a second that is due in December; sisters, Theresa Hood and Susanne Boyd; her aunt, Louise Wolfe; many nieces and nephews, Spencer (Kim) Lavallee and their children, Madelyn and Mason. Jean will be sadly missed by many dear friends including Sylvia & Glen Miller, Barb & Barry Nimz, and childhood friends: Shannon, Patti, and Susie.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and brother, Jack Hood.
The family is grateful to Dr. Hari and the staff of Froedtert Memorial Hospital. Thanks also to Dr. David Schmidt, the staff of Waukesha Memorial Hospital, as well as Mukwonago Dialysis, for their care and compassion over the years. We would like to thank Joann Nichols and family for assistance in caring for Derek over the last few months, as well as the staff of West 20. Additionally, we wish to provide a special thank you to Olsun Electrics of Richmond, IL, whose support should be an example for others.

A visitation will be held Sunday, Oct. 18, 2009, from 4 until 7 p.m., at LEGACY FUNERAL SERVICES in East Troy. A service of Christian burial will be held at 12 noon on Monday, Oct. 19, at ST. PETER’S, with a visitation from 11 a.m. until the time of service. Burial at Oakridge Cemetery of East Troy, and luncheon at St. Peter's to follow.
