Wesley Glenn Mayer, 77, died peacefully Tuesday, Nov. 17, 2009, after living a life of abundance, in which he gave to his family, friends, students, athletes, colleagues, and fellow athletic officials. Wes was born in Milwaukee, WI, on Nov. 3, 1932, to Arthur Adam Mayer and Ida Ebling Mayer. At the age of three, he moved to Edgerton, WI, with his parents. Wes married Barbara Dietz on June 6, 1992. He also accumulated credits towards a Doctorate Degree at the UW–Madison. Wes was inducted into the Athletic Halls of Fame in Edgerton, WI, Janesville, WI, and UW-LaCrosse, and the Wisconsin Swim Coaches Hall of Fame. Wes taught and coached baseball and basketball at Plum City, WI, from 1954-1956, before joining the Janesville Public Schools staff in 1956, where he retired in 1991. In Janesville, he coached boys and girls swim at Craig High School. From 1957-2009, he officiated a number of sports, primarily track, cross country and swim. He was a member of the NCAA Swim Officials Association and the WIAA Officials Association.
