Orrin E. Bull Jr., Fort Atkinson (1924 - 2009)

Orrin E. Bull Jr., 84, of Fort Atkinson, passed away Saturday, Nov. 14, 2009, at Fort Memorial Hospital. Orrin was born in Janesville on Nov. 27, 1924, son of the late Orrin E. Sr. and Edna (Mackeprang) Bull. He married Margaret “Midge” Tarpley in Whitewater on June 20, 1948. Orrin was a 1943 graduate of Janesville High School. He then received his undergraduate degree from Whitewater College and master’s degree from UW-Madison. After high school Orrin joined the U.S. Army Air Corps. He was the assistant principal from 1957 to 1960 at the U.S. Dependent School in Mannheim, Germany. Orrin was a teacher and guidance counselor at the Fort Atkinson High School for 34 years, retiring in 1987. He and former superintendent of schools, James Luther, were active in promoting and developing the present scholarship program at Fort High.
Orrin was a member of First Congregational United Church of Christ and the Paul Frank Florine Post #116 Fort Atkinson American Legion. He was an avid Green Bay Packer fan and enjoyed photography, genealogy, being outdoors, and traveling with his wife and family.
He is survived by his wife, Midge of Fort Atkinson; children: David (Susan) Bull of Shelter Cove, CA, Janice (Boyd) Lease of Melbourne, FL, and Brian (Inga) Bull of Redondo Beach, CA; daughter-in-law, Tracy Bull of New Berlin; grandchildren: Sara (Ted) Dickamore, Robin (Joe) Witt, Timothy Lease, Alannah, Alexandra and Davis Bull; great-grandchildren: Evan, Katie and Amy Dickamore; brothers-in-law, Warren Theune of Whitewater and Philip (Doris) Tarpley of Rio; and a sister-in-law, Jean Tarpley of Whitewater. He was also preceded in death by a son, Robert; and sisters, Virginia Theune and Betty Poelstra.
Memorial services will be held at 12 noon on Friday, Nov. 20, 2009, at FIRST CONGREGATIONAL UNITED CHURCH OF CHRIST, with Rev. Chris Buckingham-Taylor officiating. Friends may call from 10 a.m. on Friday at the CHURCH until time of service. Burial will take place at a later date at Oak Hill Cemetery in Janesville. In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, memorials may be made to the Orrin Bull Jr. Scholarship Fund. The DUNLAP MEMORIAL HOME OF FORT ATKINSON is assisting the family.
