Nancy J. Olsen, 81, of 301 N. Washington St., Elkhorn, WI, died unexpectedly Sunday, June 14, 2009, at Aurora Lakeland Medical Center. Nancy was born on March 11, 1928, in Lake Geneva, WI, daughter of Arthur and Maude (Barrows) Sommer. She graduated from Lake Geneva High School, and then attended Whitewater State Teachers College, graduating in 1950. Nancy married Jack E. Olsen on June 20, 1953, at the First Congregational-United Church of Christ, Elkhorn, WI; Jack died on March 31, 1993. Nancy taught elementary school grades kindergarten thru fifth grade a short time at Racine, Walworth, and Williams Bay, and then most of her career of over 25 years for Elkhorn School District, retiring in 1988. Nancy was a member of the First Congregational-United Church of Christ of Elkhorn, were she directed the junior choir. She was also involved with Eastern Star.
Nancy is survived by her two sons, Chris (Betty) Olsen of Lake Geneva, WI, and Dr. John C. (Liz) Olsen of Lake Forest, IL; and three grandchildren: Eric, Sam, and Jack.
Nancy was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 39 years, Jack; one brother, Elroy Sommer; and one sister, Marge Hadley.
Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, July 6, 2009, at HAASE-DERRICK-LOCKWOOD FUNERAL HOME, 730 N. Wisconsin St., Elkhorn, with Rev. James Kennedy officiating. Visitation will be at the funeral home from 9 a.m. until time of services. Burial will be at Oak Hill Cemetery, Lake Geneva, WI.
