Donald L. Babcock, Elkhorn (1925 - 2008)

Donald L. Babcock, 82, of Sunset Drive, Elkhorn, WI, died unexpectedly Wednesday, April 30, 2008, at his residence. Don was born in Elkhorn on Nov. 19, 1925, the son of Raymond J. and Grace (Henning) Babcock. Don graduated from Elkhorn High School with the Class of 1944. He was married to Marilyn L. Desing in Elkhorn on Nov. 17, 1950; Marilyn died on Dec. 31, 1999. Don served in the U.S. Army from Nov. 20, 1950, until Nov. 19, 1952. He was a truck driver for over 40 years, driving semi for Wm. O'Donell and Sons of Elkhorn, and in later years for Peck Meat Packing of Milwaukee, retiring in 1987. He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church of Elkhorn. He volunteered with the Elkhorn Food Pantry and the Meals on Wheels program. He was also a member of the Board of Directors of Hazel Ridge Cemetery Association.
Don is survived by his two children, Ken Babcock of Elkhorn and Mardonna "Dee" (Jim) Gubrud of Delavan; two sisters, Marilyn Davidson of Burlington and Kathleen (George) O'Hearn of Jefferson; three sisters-in-law: Sr. Seana Marie (Dorothy) Desing of Washington, D.C., Noreen Desing of Elkhorn, and Mary Ellen Desing of Lyons, WI.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 49 years, Marilyn; and a son, John "OZ" Babcock.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, May 5, 2008, at ST. JOHN'S LUTHERAN CHURCH, 104 S. Broad St., Elkhorn, with Rev. Douglas Demlow officiating. Visitation will be on Sunday from 3 until 6 p.m. at the HAASE-DERRICK-LOCKWOOD FUNERAL HOME, 730 N. Wisconsin St., Elkhorn, and at the CHURCH on Monday from 10:30 a.m. until time of services. Memorials may be made in Don's name to: St. John's Lutheran Church or Elkhorn Food Pantry.
