Francis "Fran" P. Dimmig, Milton  (1914 - 2008)

October 16, 1914 - April 28, 2008
Francis P. “Fran” Dimmig, 93, of Milton, WI, died unexpectedly on Monday, April 28, 2008, at Beloit Memorial Hospital shortly after he was admitted. He was born on Oct. 16, 1914, in Tremont, IL, son of the late Christopher and Emma (Suchart) Dimmig. Fran married Liberty Bauman in Bloomington, IL, and they had one son, William. Liberty died from pneumonia in 1939. He later married Betty M. Gandy on Aug. 14, 1944, in Burbank, CA, and together they had three children. Betty predeceased him on March 14, 1988. Fran served in the U.S. Navy from July 21, 1943, until he was Honorably discharged from active duty on Nov. 30, 1946. Fran was a member of the Milton United Methodist Church and the American Legion Post #367. He owned the Standard Oil and Mobil distributorship in Milton until he retired in 1979 at the age of 65. Not wanting to stay idle, Fran went to work for the Milton School District doing all of the lawn maintenance. This included all of the school grounds, and all of the sports playing fields. He took great pride in maintaining the fields in perfect condition until a stroke forced him to retire in 2004 at the age of 90. Fran was a strong-willed person, who never complained. He stood by his wife, taking care of her for more than 20 years, after she became bedridden from rheumatoid arthritis and the treatments she had. Fran was a very organized person, who was not a procrastinator and sometimes seemed very strict, but he truly loved kids and had a soft spot in his heart for them. He loved spending time with all of his family, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, and they will miss him dearly. He also was an avid sports fan, following all of the Milton teams, Green Bay Packers, Milwaukee Brewers, and the Milwaukee Bucks, to mention a few. He even had his own little “coffee shop” at his house, where all of his buddies would stop on a daily basis in the mornings, and solve all of the world’s problems.
He is survived by three children: Nancy (Ed) Haferman of Sun Prairie, WI, Paul (Ida) Dimmig of Verona, WI, and Bruce (Polly) Dimmig of Cottage Grove, WI; 11 grandchildren: Christy, Chad, Stephanie, Aaron, Trevor, Shaun, Ashley, Alexa, PJ, Alec, and Anissa; 21 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. He is further survived by sister-in-law and brother in law, Lois and Gene Johnson of Princeton, IL; sisters-in-law: Betty Renner of Walnut, IL, Pauline Dimmig of Delaware, and Anita Dimmig of Walnut, IL, other relatives and many friends.
In addition to both of his spouses, he was preceded in death by his son, William Dimmig; granddaughter, Cathy Dimmig; sister, Viola Foote; and brothers: Willard, Richard, Duane and Robert.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, May 2, 2008, at the WHITCOMB–LYNCH–ALBRECHT FUNERAL HOME, MILTON, 828 S. Janesville St.; (608) 868-2542; with Rev. Patrick Schultz officiating. Entombment will follow at Milton Lawns Memorial Park. Visitation will be on Thursday from 5 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home and on Friday morning from 10:30 a.m. until time of the service.
