Gordon R. Church, Janesville  (1926 - 2008)

March 18, 1926 - April 25, 2008
Gordon R. Church, 82, of Janesville, passed away early Friday morning, April 25, 2008, at Cedar View Health Center, Janesville. He was born on March 18, 1926, in Shawano, WI, a son of the late Fred I. & Alfarata A. (Abrams) Church. He moved with his family to Janesville at a young age, and attended school in Janesville. He was a graduate of Janesville High School, Class of 1945. He entered the U.S. Army, and served during and just after World War II. Gordon was a very proud Native American, being a member of the Stonebridge Branch of the Mohican Tribe. After his service to his country, he attended Olivet Nazarene University in Bourbanais, IL. Gordon worked for many years as a Maintenance Technician in the tool & die area of Hough Manufacturing Co., until his retirement. He was a very faithful member of the Good News Christian Center, Beloit. He had a beautiful voice, and sang baritone with a traveling gospel quartet. He was also a very talented photographer, and also enjoyed recording nature sounds and voices of guides to go along with the photos he took. He could then better explain his works with his sisters, who both are visually impaired. Gordon was a very laidback and peaceful man, who was the family caregiver. If anyone needed help or care, he was the first to volunteer and take exceptional care of anybody! He was never known to speak ill of anyone, and very rarely if ever showed any anger.
He is survived by his two sisters, Fae J. Church of Bowler, WI, and Joyce M. Church of Janesville; his brother, Fred E. Church of Afton; a sister-in-law, Betty Church of Rockton, IL; and by many nieces, nephews, and friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers: Winford "Carl", Sidney M., Earl W., and Leroy H. Church; and by three sisters-in-law: Sarah, Rosella, and Joan Church.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, April 29, 2008, at the WHITCOMB-LYNCH-ALBRECHT FUNERAL HOME, JANESVILLE, 15 N. Jackson St., with Rev. Clifton White officiating. Burial with full Military Rites by V.F.W. Kienow-Hilt Post #1621 will follow in Milton Lawns Memorial Park. Friends may call on Tuesday from 12 until 2 p.m. at the funeral home.
