Two opponents of the Janesville City Council’s decision to remove the Monterey Dam intend to seek council seats in April.

Jeffrey Navarro and Harry Paulsen, both members of the Monterey Dam Association, have taken out nomination papers for the spring election. Navarro ran unsuccessfully for council earlier this year.

The Monterey Dam Association formed after the city council’s March vote to remove the dam. The association has been fighting the decision ever since and has expressed distrust of city officials.

Three council seats are up for grabs. The incumbents—Vice President Rich Gruber and members Paul Williams and Jens Jorgensen—also have taken out nomination papers.

Papers are due by 5 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 2. The spring election is April 3.
