JANESVILLE—Assistant City Engineer Dennis Ryan retired Nov. 3 after more than 24 years with the Janesville Engineering Division.
Ryan, a Janesville native, graduated from Parker High School, attended UW-Madison and received a Bachelor of Science degree in civil engineering from UW-Platteville in 1981.
He started his career at the Dallas County Public Works Department in Texas. He also worked as a private contractor.
In 1984, he started working for the city of Milwaukee. He returned to his hometown in 1993.
Originally hired as a senior engineer, Ryan was promoted to assistant city engineer in 2010. He spent much of his city career working as the liaison for Wisconsin Department of Transportation projects, as well as on the city’s traffic and parking projects.
Ryan belonged to several professional organizations, including the American Public Works Association and Institute of Transportation Engineers.
He received the Janesville Police Department’s Citizen Award in March 2008 and the city’s Mighty Oak Award in September 2017.
