Hedberg Public Library director Bryan J. McCormick recently was elected chairman of the Council on Library and Network Development for 2017-18.

Gov. Scott Walker appointed McCormick to the council in 2013. He has served as vice chairman for the past three years.

Created by the state Legislature in 1979, the Council on Library and Network Development advises the state superintendent of Public Instruction to ensure that all state residents have access to library and information services.

The 19-member council functions as a forum through which librarians and residents identify, study and collect public testimony on issues affecting Wisconsin libraries and other information services. Members serve three-year terms.
