The National Weather Service issued a winter weather advisory for Rock County on Monday as a band of moderate to heavy snow approaches the area.

Rock County is forecast to receive 2 to 4 inches of snow and possibly freezing rain, according to a Rock County Sheriff’s Office news release.

Snow is expected to be heavy Monday evening, and drifting snow likely will affect travel conditions. The advisory warns travelers to be prepared for limited visibility, slippery roads and strong wind.

Motorists are advised to wear seat belts and spend extra time driving Monday night, keep headlights on, maintain a safe distance from other vehicles and carry emergency kits in their vehicles, according to the release.

The National Weather Service also issued an advisory for Elkhorn from 3 p.m. Monday through 3 p.m. Tuesday. Residents are restricted from parking on city streets through 3 a.m. Tuesday, according an Elkhorn Police Department Facebook post.
