A wheelchair-bound man died last month after he tipped over in his chair while riding in a transport van, according to a Janesville police report.

The van’s driver, Michael C. Erickson, 56, of 2463 Robinson Drive, Beloit, turned right from North Washington Street onto West Memorial Drive at about 5:22 p.m. Monday, Feb. 26, then heard a bang from the back of his vehicle, according to the report.

Paul D. Miller, 82, of 4014 E. Milwaukee St., Janesville, had fallen backward in his wheelchair. Miller died two days later of injuries he sustained in the fall, according to the report.

Erickson told police Miller’s wheelchair had been properly restrained. Another passenger in the van said Erickson placed the wheelchair’s front straps on after the fall, according to the report.
