A vehicle that caught fire closed County M in both directions for about 90 minutes Tuesday evening.

The vehicle fire, the cause of which is unclear, started just north of Highway 14 near the Rock-Walworth County line. Both lanes of County M were closed as firefighters battled the blaze, a Rock County Communications Center supervisor said Tuesday.

Walworth County officials responded to the fire before contacting Rock County officials at 4:45 p.m. Tuesday. The fire was extinguished, and the road reopened around 6:10 p.m., the supervisor said.

Deputies from Rock and Walworth counties and Darien firefighters responded to the scene. A Darien truck spread salt and sand on the water used to extinguish the fire to minimize ice, the supervisor said.
