The Rock County Board denied a claim Thursday night from a jail inmate seeking money for insufficient and incorrect medical care.
Wade A. Hallett, 53, filed the claim in January seeking $166,000 for medical bills. He wrote that he has fallen and injured his back several times since being admitted to the county jail more than a year ago.
The jail forced him to take heart medication that has caused him complications and impaired his judgment, according to the claim. The effects of the medication clouded his thinking and resulted in him pleading no contest Oct. 24 to one of four counts alleging sexual assault of a child he knows, according to the claim.
Hallett fell at the jail and injured his back on three occasions, according to the claim. Hallett fell in a hallway after the floor was mopped, in his cell after the toilet overflowed and off an improperly installed chair, he wrote. All of those instances worsened his back pain.
Hallett served as the Rock County Republican Party’s elections board chairman during the 2016 presidential election.
His sentencing on the sexual assault charge is set for March 15.
