Janesville School District Superintendent Steve Pophal had his first performance evaluation Tuesday. He couldn’t have done better.
“It was unanimous, 9 to 0, we are completely satisfied with the way things are going right now,” school board President Kevin Murray said.
The review comes about three months into Pophal’s tenure as superintendent.
Murray described the closed-session meeting as an “informal” quarterly review.
“There wasn’t any formal scoring; there wasn’t any data review,” Murray said.
In March, the school board will conduct a formal review based on specific goals the board has set.
Murray said the board was particularly satisfied with the way Pophal was engaging with the public and his habit of reserving Wednesdays as his day to get into the schools.
Board members acknowledged that they were “still in the honeymoon period,” he said.
“It’s a little early,” Murray said. “Over time, we will be looking at if we did what we said we were going to do.”
